How Glare You!?!
The sunshine was out most of last week. It felt like it had been weeks, maybe even months, since the sun had shined like that. With the sunshine came awesome weather with temps hovering in the mid to high 60s. So I took walks during my lunch to make sure I got to enjoy it. And I took my kahuna.
Since I was walking paths I’ve already walked a hundred times, I kept my eye open for new things to photograph. And the only new thing I could find was light. Glares off of objects. It then became a game of seek and find – if I walk this way, how will the light glare off that building? Off that bridge? Off that thing over there?
Glares. I usually try to avoid them but I it was fun experimenting with them.
This is the photo that started it all. I got stares plopping myself down on the pavement of the Belvedere and it struck up an odd conversation with the gardener, but it was worth it. That there [on the right] is the Humana Tower designed by Michael Graves.
When I went out the next day, I looked for more glare. Since the sun is high at midday, I had to find tall objects to obstruct the view of the sun. It was either that or lie on my back to look up at something which I don’t feel comfortable doing in random places around the city. There’s always the chance of stepping [or sitting] in something a little funky.
Anyway, there was a lot of moving around, stepping in the street [and watching for traffic], trying different angles, tipping my head all the way back and holding my mouth open just right…
So while these aren’t my best or my favorites, it was fun to try something different. And now I’m wanting to try it with a person, try to get a sweet silhouette with glare bursting around someone. Here’s to hoping the opportunity is sooner rather than later. And fingers crossed the sun comes out to play again this week.
